Ten Tables gets a "ten" in our book.
Sometimes the best restaurants just seem to sneak up on you, which was
the case with this tiny Jamaica Plain establishment. Literally
only having ten tables, the dining room is funky and cool, but homey and
warm, with an open kitchen that makes you feel like you're at an
intimate dinner party. Additionally, the soft jazz music soothes,
while the artwork intrigues. The menu is typically limited to about five
options per course of American cuisine with French influences,
incorporating produce from local farms. We started with the Ten
Tables Salad and the Summer Corn Soup with Seared Scallop. The
Salad was simple but flavorful. The Soup was divine, capturing the
essence of summertime with a light and creamy corn base accompanied by a
crisp and juicy scallop. We then moved on to the Roasted Chicken
and a Coulotte Steak. Its not often that a chicken entree can be
called exquisite, but that was certainly the case here. The skin
was crispy, light, and sweet, while the white meat beneath was superbly
succulent. The Coulotte Steak was also impressive, served with a
tangy mustard sauce and a side of lentils. For dessert, we chose
the Rice Pudding and the Chocolate Terrine. Both were the perfect
ending to an overall outstanding meal. If Rice Pudding is your
thing, don't miss this one. The service was friendly and
pleasantly paced; we felt welcomed as the staff's enthusiasm for great
dining was contagious. Chef David Punch sent over two separate
treats, and also checked on our table a couple times, which topped of
the personal touch. Surprisingly, pricing is very moderate, a real
steal for the quality of the experience. If we lived in Jamaica
Plain, we'd probably make this one of our regular spots. -Mike & Kim |
