Ruth's Chris
Steak House, opened in October 2005, is one of the newer locations of
this national steak house chain. Set in Boston's historic Old City Hall,
the restaurant has a unique and charming atmosphere, with its high
ceilings, opulent lighting, and modern furniture. The menu comes as no
surprise, offering up traditional steak house favorites. We sampled the
Steak House Salad, Filet Mignon, Cold Water Lobster Tail, Shoestring
Fries, Warm Apple Crumb Tart, and the Chocolate Sin Cake. Everything was
good, but not great, and the presentation was unimaginative, basically a
cut of steak thrown onto a hot plate. The service was sporadic - our
entrees were brought out before we finished our appetizers, we were
seated next to a raucous group of businessmen, and our server was overly
attentive at times followed by basically disappearing for a half-hour.
However, we'll cut them somewhat of a break as they were likely still
working the kinks out after only having been open for a few weeks.
During our second visit, the staff was much more organized, and the
private rooms downstairs were very impressive. Like
most of Boston, parking is nearly impossible, but Ruth's Chris is easily
accessible by public transportation and also offers up a valet service.
