Review
After a few months of re-imagination, Mooo opened in the space previously
occupied by the
highly reputable Federalist restaurant (same chef and same
owners). Moo brands itself as a modern, upscale, concept steakhouse,
and it undoubtedly hits the mark. The decor and ambiance are a little
less stuffy than its predecessor (note that the picture above is from the
Fed), and gives off a classy yet homey vibe. We opted for an early
5:30 seating, and when we arrived at opening there wasn't much of a crowd,
but by the time we left the dining room was jumpin'. The menu offers
an excellent selection of top line cuts of steak in addition to a wide array
of tantalizing appetizers and accompaniments. We opted to start with a
Iceberg Lettuce Salad and the Poached Lobster. Both were phenomenal - the salad was
fresh, well dressed, and complemented perfectly by a small amount of bacon;
the lobster was a hearty portion cut into bite size portions, immersed in a
pot of drawn and seasoned butter and accompanied by crimini mushrooms. The
next round was even better, as we both opted for the Filet Mignon - and we
must say that these were the best steaks we have had in recent memory.
They were prepared perfectly to our individual tastes, incredibly
flavored, and served with an inventive herb butter. The parmesan fries
were also delightful. We also give an A+ to the wine-by-the-glass
selection and the desserts. Service was friendly and attentive - more
than the usual small talk, our waiter was genuinely affable.
The price tag was the only complaint, as Moo makes for one of the more
expensive restaurants in the city - to be fair, Moo picks up where the
Federalist lefts off as one of the top establishments in the city. As for parking, its not easy on
Beacon Hill, but we parked around the corner for $10, not a bad deal.
Overall, we had a wonderful experience, and we'll surely return again,
hopefully very soon. -Mike & Kim |
